COLA, the premier clinical laboratory education, consultation and accreditation organization in the country, visits some 4,000 laboratories annually to improve the quality of laboratory testing and patient care.  Nearly 14,000 new lab professionals are needed annually, while schools produce only 5,000 per year.  This workforce shortage will be exacerbated as the Affordable Care Act comes online and up to 35 million new patients enter the system. COLA utilized public relations and social networking to lead the discussion and offer solutions.

Alvaré developed press releases and background materials on the laboratorian workforce shortage and offered media outlets the opportunity to interview COLA CEO Douglas Biegel. This effort produced a Q&A feature in the Baltimore Sun, trade magazine interviews and editorials and marketing content that are repurposed for the COLAInsider microsite and other COLA social sites.
