Anita Alvaré threw open the doors of Alvaré Associates on April Fools’ Day—1981. It was exactly one day after she had left her post as public relations manager for CertainTeed Corporation’s Insulation Group. It never occurred to her to take a week off between jobs to rest up for the challenge-of-her-life. She needed business. She would start “tomorrow.”
